The people of Ondo State, Nigeria on Saturday 20th October, 2012 went to the polls to elect the person that will serve their state as governor in the next four years. At the end of the exercise, Dr. Olusegun Rahman Mimiko was re-elected as the governor of the state.
The major gladiators in the election were: Dr Olusegun Mimiko, Barr Oluwarotimi Akeredolu and Barr. Olusola Oke .
The result of the valid vote shows that: Mimiko polled 260,199 votes winning in 13 local councils, Chief Olusola Oke of the PDP came second in terms of figures with 155,961, winning two local councils while Rotimi Akeredolu of the ACN scored 143,512 votes, winning three local councils.
The governor (Dr Mimiko) was returned with 44 percent of the 594,244 valid votes cast from a total voter population of 1.6 million while 30,415 votes were rendered invalid.
